Getting started

Getting started with an AI phone assistant

A municipality starts with Iris by OpenIris without an IT project or app: it provides information, we set Iris up, and residents call the number they already know. The Municipality of Doesburg has used Iris at its customer contact centre since July 2026. OpenIris is a Dutch company; Iris is built for the GDPR, sovereign and independent of US big tech.

How does a pilot run?

1. Introduction and demo

E-mail info@openiris.nl. We show Iris and discuss where she helps most: the contact centre, letters or information for newcomers.

2. Data agreements

We sign a data processing agreement and choose, per link, an API within Europe or the sovereign option on our own GPUs. We supply the information for the DPIA.

3. Set-up

The municipality provides documentation, websites, processes and the departments Iris may transfer to. We set Iris up and prepare the line.

4. Test and go live

Staff call Iris with the questions that come in most. Once that works, residents call the existing number.

Who does OpenIris work with?

The Municipality of Doesburg has used Iris as its AI phone assistant since July 2026. Separately, through Startup in Residence Intergov, OpenIris builds the Memory Box (an interviewer that records what experienced staff know) together with the Municipality of The Hague, the Province of South Holland and the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security.
